Downloads from Safari open up Mail

Everytime I download something from the internet (ex: Adobe Flash Player or Safari) it goes to my desktop. Then I click on it and it opens Mail, and then it shows a new message with a folder in it. I click on the folder, and it just keeps popping up new folders. It's really annoying, and PLEASE HELP! thanks. -BIlly Crothers

Hello, try repairing permissions.

it didn't work because disk repair was gone. I had to redownload the Mac Os X and then I got installer which aloud me to install the apps from the internet. Thanks for the suggestion tho
