Hi there -

I've never really had an ipad and just bought a 13" Air with the M3 chip (256 or so gb). I already know I want to upgrade to 512 so will be consistent with my phone and not get bogged down.

My purposes will be several but the one I'm most interested in is that I want to use the ipad like a laptop (I'll get a keyboard case most likely) and to record and edit voiceover/narration (using a second monitor) and also use the ipad to read from and mark up as needed with the apple pencil. My real laptop is essentially dead.

I'll need to plug in an adapter hub with several ports, into which I'd plug in a Zoom audio interface (and a mic into that) and of course the HDMI cable for the monitor plus anything else I'd need but that's most of it.

1. Is the Air able to handle all this once I exchange it for more gb? It only has one USB C port but the adapter will have 2 so one can go toward charging the ipad from there. I know the ipad Pro can handle more at one time with the M4 chip and dual USB C ports but this would just be for reading and recording/editing sound and then the second display/monitor. Is a Pro really necessary and if I stay with an Air, is it okay to add the adapter hub to the sole USB C port and cram all that into the adapter?! 😆 One of the ports would then become the way to charge the ipad. I can't afford the 1 TB pro one which has the 16 gb of ram so in either case it would be only 8 gb. Will the M3 Air be too slow for this or the 1 port be a problem?

2. My laptop is all but dead. Is it true that with a reputable keyboard case I'll really be able to use the ipad as if it were a laptop in terms of emailing by typing, writing notes by typing, searching the web quickly by typing etc?

3. The only issue I've come across so far is that I like using Audacity for sound recording and editing and there is no Audacity app. Can anyone tell me if SoundLab is the closest thing to Audacity there is and if in general these types of apps will function as well as a "real" website download like Audacity, with an added keyboard?

4. Lastly, and this feels like such a silly question but how can 2 apps be open at the same time as if two website pages being open at the same time on a laptop (either by reducing the side of each page till side by side or else by having different tabs open or minimizing etc)? How would I do all of the above without being able to do that?

Thanks so much!
