Another reason to install the Developer Tools that came on your Tiger DVD.

Quartz Composer !

What can you do with it, well you can have a read of this, if you have the spare time !!

For the purpose of this exercise we are going to build (adapt) our own Screensaver.

The first example is made in under a minute, so no hard core programming required !

Open up Quartz Composer, and select a 'New Composition From Template' --> 'Mac OS X RSS ScreenSaver'.

Should look something like pics below...

The pics show opening and naming a new 'Composition' and then the two windows that are now opened up...

This has now "made a new RSS ScreenSaver" as you can see from the preview window it is hooked up to an Apple RSS feed !

To make it 'our own we just need to change the 'URL' to https://www.mac-help.com/forums/external.php?type=rss2

You do this by clicking on the small circle next to the letters URL.

This is quite tricky to click on the circle and get the editable box up, once it is replace the URL with the one above !

Now do a save !

Done, technically you have 'created' your own RSS Screensaver.

Now goto the System prefs pane and select your new screensaver.

The files are below.

This .qtz file needs to be placed in your Screensaver folder in your Library folder in your user folder !

As you can see the text moves to wuickly to read and it needs a bit of ooomph...

We'll use this as our starting point...and design a few more !
