Hi,

I would like to back up my main system drive. I want to make a disk image or an image that is loadable. I have a powermac and a external hard drive. I thought you could do it in disk utility, but I can't figure out how. Is there a better program or a simple way to make a image that I can load to the mac? Something like norton ghost for the pc.

Hi there and welcome,

the best 'free' way is to use "Carbon Copy Cloner"

Though if you use it/like it then please donate it is donationware !

Download it and give it a go...

If you fancy spending some money, then SuperDuper is well worth the money.

Hi,

I have tried using that program. I can't figure out how to back up the entire os and apps and have it load the image. I've tried making an image and then can't load it back. Anyone have any hints on how to ghost a whole drive and be able to load it. I've tried launching disk utility from the os cd holding the c button. I still can't figure it out.

Both programs that Ric mentions are amongst the best for the job :)

Maybe reading the help files that come with them will allow you to get going.

You can also use disk image via disk utility -although the programs above are better.
