attaching photos through "browse"

I have a new MacBook Pro...this is my first Mac. I am trying to attach photos to email, blogs, etc. and when I click "browse" to attach, then go to iphoto, the only thing I am allowed to do is attach all of iphoto! How do I select an individual photo to upload when given the "browse" option?

When you click the Photo part to the left you need to click on an album above and then the images should appear below (see attachment).
