I have an older iPod with the following:
Model MC086LL
It has version4.0 (8A293)

Most apps that I'd like to install require iOS 6..

HOW do upgrade my iOS..? It doesn't seem to be like my iPhone.. I don't know what to "push"
I've tried going to Settings | General but don't see any way to upgrade. On my iPhone I usually get a notification that I need to upgrade my iOS
I've also clicked on Apps and there are a couple of very old apps that needed upgrading.. but, didn't say anything about iOS.

I know this all sounds redundant.. but, I'm currently at a loss as to how.. IF it is even possible.

Thanks for sticking with me this far.

Hello and welcome.

That model is an 8 GB iPod touch (2nd Generation). Unfortunately, the maximum iOS that can be used/installed it 4.2.1 (8C148). iOS 6 is not compatible and cannot be installed.

Sorry for the bad news.
