unable to open my passport external hard drive

Hi all,
I am having difficulty to open my passport WD external hard drive .
I have I mac OSX EL CAPITAN 10.11.5 .
I can't also open some of my memory sticks. Do I have to reinstall l" El Capitan" ?

What exact Mac model are you using?

Also, when did this start happening?

Western Digital (WD) drives are rather notorious for "not playing nicely" with Macs.

Are you making any backups to an external device?

Have you ever done any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs to your internal drive?

Do you have either MacKeeper or CleanMyMac on your system? If you do, get rid of them immediately! They do more harm than good.

Do you have any anti-virus software on your Mac?

For the issues with your memory sticks, is it confined to a specific brand?

Exactly what does this mean? Can you be more specific, memory sticks or RAM can be bought, installed, removed & tested …
