Porblems with torrent client running with VPN

I wasn't sure if I should stick this under Networking or Applications. I'll just start it under here and hope for the best. I recently got a vpn and am having trouble running it with vuze. I've been reading that vuze and vpn's are fickle friends but I really like the client and would like to stick with it and try to get it to work. I set the preferences in vuze settings to only allow downloads through the bound interface... but I'm having trouble understanding just what the interfaces are and how they work.
