My First kernel panic...

A dark shadow came over the screen, (sinister, isn't it), and the
dreaded global message. The Book says it's a hardware thing, and I
reckon it was because I yanked out my Bluetooth dongle while the
computer was trying to do something else, or before I switched off
    Bluetooth.

At least, I hope that was why...

I used to get these regularly until I replaced ropey RAM modules with
Crucial ones. Not another panic have I had.

    Fair chance it is.

OTOH, my PowerBook has been back three times because it keeps on with
these when it wakes from sleep ;)

I have seen these for only two reasons here - Norton Utilities, will
cause one fvor me within minutes of installing (indeed, it won't run
long enough to even download all the updates).

My only kernel panic on the G5 was attempting to do something daft in
Toast while trying to connect between the internal Superdrive, and an
    external Lacie FW CDRW drive.

Mine happened after a sequence of quitting PhoneAgent, turning BT off,
pulling out the dongle (can't remember exact order), and then clicking
    'Play' in iTunes.

Sounds not only plausible, but highly likely. Bluetooth dongle is USB?
The only kernel panics I've ever had have always been USB related -
USB-powered Zip drive being the main culprit.

Possibly it's because they have things plugged and unplugged more often
than desktops- it's in the nature of moveable things.

Add-on hardware (including RAM chips) certainly seems to be source of
most kernel panics. But since I worked out that mine (667 TiBoko) were
caused by having a 100Mb Zip drive plugged up on waking [1], it's never
    awarded me another.

[1] The drive works absolutely fine with a TonkaBoko.

I had a load early on in the 10.0 days that were SCSI related - bad
cables, termination hassles etc. Nice new (expensive) cables, no more
    panics.

Never had a USB one though.

    cheers

Yep. Tis USB. Very glad I was aware, from reading this group, of what
    Colonel Panick looks like...
