This is the second external CD Writer I have bought and neither will read CD. It will spin and sometimes display the contents but won't do anything else ( Both CD Writers will work with Macs)

-Is the disc a commercially purchased disc or a burned CD-R?
-Is it a music CD or a data CD?
-Do you have another Mac (computer) you can test the CD in?
-Can you burn a CD in either of the drives and then read them?
-Does the issue only affect one disc or all?

The disc is any disc and they are commercial
When I put the disc in I can hear it click and then spin for about 15 seconds, then after a short time it stops.
In finder if I dub/click it it spins a short time then a studdering sound like a teletype. When I try to eject it by the button I get nothing but if I click on eject on the computer it says it can't be ejected because Finder is using it. I have tried 3 different cd writers a LG Slim portable DVD writer {New}
a new CD Burner/DVD/BlueRay portable and a LG Super MultiDisc .
