HD temperature sensor come unstuck

Hi all.

The fan on my iMac has been working overtime and I've since found out that this is maybe due to the temperature sensor coming unstuck so it is no in contact with the HD anymore. The plastic retainer that sits under the foam pad is not secure. Is there a particular type of glue i need to use to stick it back in place?

Hello and welcome.

First off, I don't advise folks to try and repair internal parts of their Macs, especially iMacs, as that can do more damage and void any remaining warranty they may have.

That said, the HD sensor isn't glued into place. It uses a special type of double-sided tape that is attached to the foam and the plastic retainer that holds it in place against the HD.

I highly recommend that you visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to get it corrected.
