This link explains how to get rid of DuckDuckGo:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5872886?tstart=0

Also, the next time you request assistance with an issue, it is extremely beneficial if you let is know the exact Mac model you are using, and the exact Mac OS you are using. For most issues, it is not as "simple" as this one.
Thank you for the useful information. I have a Macbook Pro and the OS is OSX El Capitan. DuckDuckGo isn't shown in Safari Extensions.

This link has the "various" ways you can remove DuckDuckGo:

http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-duckduckgo.html/2#h-mac-os-x

It gives instructions for 1) removing it from your Applications folder (seems to be not applicable for you) and 2) from each of the 3 "popular" browsers used with Macs: Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome. Note also that if you click on "What is DuckDuckGo" at the top of that link, it has a discussion as to how that search engine can get onto a machine.

After you try the "applicable" one for your situation (I suspect it's via Safari, unless you use another browser), you should then download the excellent freeware program Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, mentioned in the link. You can get it from here:

DuckDuckGo isn't spyware or malware, or even an application that is installed. It is a search engine similar to Google. You can change your default search engine in Safari by:

1. Click Safari > Preferences...
2. Click the Search icon
3. Click the drop-down next to Search engine: and choose any of the others.

You may also have to change your Homepage: setting in Safari > Preferences... > General.
