Date and time preferences not opening

Hello,

I am having trouble opening my date and time preferences, which have for some reason changed to the year 2000. Whenever I try to open date and time preferences, nothing comes up and I have to force quit system preferences. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Hello and welcome.

-What model Mac?
-Which version of OS X?

Usually this is an issue on portable Macs when the battery is starting to fail.

We can help you delete the preference (post) file once we know which version of OS X you are running and that should allow you to open it without it hanging.
