Connection of i-phone to i-mac

When i try to connect an i-phone to my i-mac, the phone vibrates, the battery icon flashes, and i get the message "This device no longer connected" Help please

Hello and welcome.

A few things can cause this:

-A bad cable between the iPhone and iMac.
-The Dock/Lightning connector port on the iPhone is loose or damaged, or has foreign material in it.

-Do you have another cable you can try?
-Have you inspected the port on the iPhone and cleaned it if necessary?
