Pull from Email and Convert/Combine .xml

Alright guys and gals... I am trying to develop an automator script that will pull .xml data files (which contain employee information) from emails, convert the .xml to .xls and then combine all the .xls together to form one large database.

Everytime I use automator, it fails to even start. Advice or code examples?
