wanting to watch TV....

I am a very frustrated Mac user...I have been living in Japan for a while now and I miss our TV programs. My daughter living in Europe watches them all the time on her PC. I cannot buy and use a Mac TV box here and I do not know if I can download a sofware package to use a US base proxy. I tried joining one of those "watch TV on your computer" sites. I even paid for it but Mac's do not support those 'sites'

Any advise?
