Summary of Job:
Support Macintosh workstations
Promote the utility, reliability, stability, and security of the Macintosh platform at Pixar
Provide a high level of customer service to the Macintosh population at Pixar
Responsibilities:
Resolve support requests:
Install, upgrade, and maintain software, hardware, and peripherals
Troubleshoot hardware and software problems
Troubleshoot network and remote access connectivity problems
Perform general system maintenance and support
Produce documentation
Train end-users as needed
Assist other IS staff as needed
Required Qualifications:
One to two years of related experience
Ability to troubleshoot Mac software problems, including problems with the operating systems (Mac OS X Panther and Tiger), applications, drivers, etc
Ability to troubleshoot Mac hardware problems, including problems with workstations, servers, drives, cards, printers, scanners, and other peripherals
Ability to troubleshoot Mac connectivity issues (TCP/IP, VPN, remote access, etc.)
Proficiency with Mac utilities
Experience with the following: IMAP and POP clients, Web browsers, and Microsoft Office
Organization and attention to detail
Experience supporting end users
Ability to follow through on support requests in a timely manner, escalating to other members of the team when appropriate
Ability to prioritize and address multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment
Ability to work independently and with other members of a team
Ability to lift and carry computers and monitors
Ability to communicate technical issues in non-technical terms
Proven oral and written communication skills
Helpful Qualifications:
Experience with the following: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Meeting Maker, Now Contact, Final Draft, FileMaker, Microsoft Project, Citrix client, Palm Pilot, and Mac OS X Server
Familiarity with remote query tools (such as Apple Remote Desktop, KeyServer, Asset Trustee, netOctopus), remote control (such as Timbuktu Pro, VNC), and software distribution tools (such as ARD, FileWave)
A degree is very helpful, but not required; a computer science degree is even more helpful
Ability to automate system administration functions using Unix shell scripts, Perl, Python, and/or AppleScript
Familiarity with FreeBSD, Linux and/or OpenSTEP
Familiarity with Windows
Familiarity with ssh, log file analysis, cfengine, rpm
Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions (such as NetBackup, Retrospect)
Familiarity with encryption and security tools (such as FileVault, PGP)
Experience navigating and controlling real-time 3D environments such as Quake and Unreal
