I'd say you might not need Macbook Pro for that, although be aware that the Macbook uses a built in display adapter made by Intel, an X3100. You should check around to see if your apps would work with that well or not, this is particularily relevant for games.
For the other purposes, including movies (inc. HD), DVDs etc, it would be fine.
