Perhaps because the recording industry doesn't want you to.

Has Apple pre-determined all DVD screengrabs are legally unsanctionable?
What about DVD material I own, for example? I hope it's the technical
reason, although things like SnapNDrag have no problem. Thanks for the
VLC tip.

Like that moment in Witness when the thug puts a dob of ice-cream
from his cone on one of the Amish. He is about to get a broken
nose from Harrison Ford.

Maybe cause it's in motion? WHo knows? Can't you pause the DVD and make
your screen grab while it's static?

It's required by the MPAA (damn I think that's correct, for some
strange reason that looks wrong though) for all "Software" DVD
players. I just read this article a few hours ago.

You can get good screen grabs with Streamclip:

Then just start using MAFIAA - Music and Film Industry Associations of
America. Easier to remember. At least for me...

Interesting; thanks for the info. It's nice to know it's not Apple
themselves--I thought it seemed very un-Apple-like. Looks like the MPAA
has a heck of a lot of lobbying clout. I guess they think it's a given
their movies are more important than mine when it comes to my computer
dollars.

Not familiar with that film; can you post a screenshot?
