uploading webpages: quotation marks switching to �™

I'm trying to upload content created on word 2008 for mac (version 12.1.0): and the site i paste it to changes quotation marks and apostrophes to symbols �™
I've tried it on firefox/ and safari: also tried saving as simple text and pasting into text edit: all with no effect: all suggestions gratefully received
