Time capsule and Airport Express

As newbie I'm sure that this has been covered already...

I have a 1Tb Time Capsule plugged into my BT home hub and it works a treat. I have just purchased an Airport Express to play my music wirelessly. I can use the Airtunes facility no problem - however, and perhaps this is the newbie in me, when I select the AE from the list on the tool bar, I replace the TC link. Is this correct? That when I use Airtunes, I cannot connect to the internet via the TC?
Using the Airport preferences I can't add the AE to an existing network - and error message is returned (the AE cannot be found after restarting).

I'm hoping that I've missed something glaringly obvious...
