Connecting Imac To Television

Went Out And Bought The Minidvi To Dvi Adapter, And The Monster Cable Dvi To Hdmi Cable, Plugged It All In But Only Some Of The Picture On The Mac Screen Shows Up On The Tv And Its All Messed Up.........the Guy At Best Buy Told Me All I Needed To Do Is Plug It In.........is There Some Setup In The Computer That Needs To Be Changed???????
