Hi
My G4 Emac running OSX 10.5.2 keeps crashing and freezing. Sometimes it will stay running for a few minutes sometimes it won't even start up. The icons on the screen fragment just before the freeze or crash and then it goes dead. I've backed everything up but think the hard drive is dead. Is it an easy job to replace a hard drive, or does anybody think this is fixeable without going that far?

Can you help?

Thanks
Limebee

If you want to change the hard drive on eMac there's a good visual step by step procedure available at http://www.sterpin.net/ddemac.htm. Okay, it's in french but it clearly shows how to do it. If you understand a bit of french you'll find that it's very well explained.
Have fun!

Bob

That's a great link Oldbob! The English translation isn't quite perfect but may help, although as you mention the pictures are pretty good:

English translation for Oldbob's nifty link found in previous post

I got stuck with the French-English translation at Step 1 ... I thought La Bete meant a sheep as in Brian Ferry's "La Bete Noir"

The French nickname many things. "La bęte" is how he calls his eMac computer. It means "the beast", nothing to be scared of.
Replacing the hard drive seems like a straightforward job. If you have a late generation eMac it's even easier.

For those who want to replace their optical drives in the emac you can eliminate a couple of steps from the previous linked tutorial. For one, you don't have to remove the fan.
