no not tiger who is bursting out of the seams of a hoplessly outclassed poor G3 ibook that can hardly cope
but dvd's
i have a collection of extremley expensive imported region 1 dvd's
( mostly anime the 5 mobile suit gundam zeta dvd's set me back 179 )
some are not availble any more and quite frankly i want to rip these to avi format so i can watch them on one of my computers ( i play most of my dvd's on a monitor anyway )
and not touch the real thing unless i really have to

so err how do i go about that ?

( it probably involves imovie or something )

Hi there,

there are quite a lot of 'bits' that you can use...

Primarily, MacTheRipper is what you are after...

Let us know if you need any pointers in the right direction...

You can do this using QuickTime Pro (you need to get a license) ! Then you can save them as H264, which will make them nice and small !

Or you can get ffmpegX which you can use to compress them.

Which ever way you do it, it takes a while !

Hi there,

if you use QuickTime Pro then you can 'create' yourself an Automator workflow and leave it compressing the MTR files overnight...so at least then it doesn't seem to take as long !

Hi there,

I am just using MTR to extract a DVD at the minute, then I'll convert using QT 7, just to see how 'quick' (I think slow would be a better word) it is...

Hi there,

DVD ripped using MTR, now running it through HandBrake not sure if I mentioned this one before..but it it is another good way !

So, MTR first then HandBrake...HandBrake also has a 'queue' system so you can leave it running overnight !

HandBrake works well...especially if you leave your Mac alone (it likes at much processor power as possible !)

regards

Ric
