Hi Ric,

I installed a new hard drive, a 200gb seagate barracuda at 7200rpm. (external firewire)

I formatted it with mac os extended (journaled).

I can't capture video with final cut pro into the new hard drive.

So I tried to verify the drive but it shows error and ask to repair.

It also show error after I press the repair button.

After reformatting again with mac os extended (journaled) it works.

I checked the drive capacity, there were 2 icons.

One show at 183gb. Prolific pl350 (manufacturer of ext. firewire)

and the other, hard drive name show at only 127gb.

Why is there a drastic drop in capacity ??

Thanks Ric

Hi there !

An external Firewire drive 'should not' be affected by the128GB limit on your machine, this is only on drives on the ata internal bus...

Can you give a screen grab of what you are seeing in Disk Utility ?

Have you bought a prebuilt external drive or an enclosure and fitted the drive yourself, what make and model please ?

regards

Ric.

Hi Ric,

Thanks for the reply,

Actually I forgot to tell you that I did tried put in the drive via ata in the system

when I have problem capturing with final cut pro, to confirm whether the ext.

firewire causing the problem. I think that cause it to reconise only at 128gb.

even when I make it external again, It still show at 127gb. That a stupid

mistake I did . Can I get maximum capacity if I reformat again via firewire ??

Thanks again Ric, sorry for the trouble.

It should work give it a go, it's no trouble !

Try and format (repartition) as a Firewire Disk.

What Make and Model "Enclosure" have you got ? Some older chipsets have the 128GB limit !

let us know how you get on !

Hi Ric,

Thanks for the reply,

I reformat my hard drive as a firewire. Now i got it at 186gb.

In the disk utility>erase, volume format: I use mac os extended (journaled)

Name: untitled, I checked the Install mac os9 disk driver box.

In the security option, I checked the zero out data box. Approx. 14gb lost.

Is it because I checked the box install mac os9 disk driver ? or is it normal ?

My drive is seagate 200gb barracuda 7200rpm and encloser is Gizmo a

combo usb-2 and firewire. One more thing, can I delete data in the trash

folder in mac ? How? I 'm still new to mac. Thanks Ric.
