HI, I am sure someone must have asked, but I have just returned a sony dcr-sr32e as I couldnt get it to download to imovie. Is it because it is the cheap end of the HD cameras, I thought the mac would just have seen it as a spare drive but no such luck. I dont want to go back to my trusty minidv, but would welcome any help from anyone who has sorted the HD issue, maybe a panasonic or everio? anyway, all suggestions welcome

I personally don't like the HD cameras. They eat battery power way too fast. A nice DV tape camera would be my choice.

I haven't heard about any that are better than others though, sorry.

The battery on my HD Sony lasts for up to 9 hours with higher capacity battery, and about 4 hours with the supplied one - they have improved incredibly

This is the same camera as mine. Please see here for more information on what to do and what you need.

As for other HD camcorders, the best thing to do would be to research via google, as people have different preferences for different makes

Technically, any are compatible, even if USB, it is the software such as iMovie that may not be.

If the camera records in Mpeg2 and/or is muxed, and uses 5.1 for the sound, this is when you will find iMovie will not work.

To solve that, it will cost you a tenner for this software:
