Running a Late 2008 Macbook Pro 15" with OS X v10.5 Leopard.
Recently had to replace the hard drive with a 320GB Seagate Momentus with 7200RPM and 16MB cache.
After replacing hard drive, noticed that keyboard was unresponsive. Tried caps lock to see if it would light and got nothing.
On top of that, the screen stays black. I've taken a light to it (just to see if it was a backlight failure) and there was nothing.
Hard drive boots, disc drive boots, and fans run high for five minutes before stopping, then the device restarts itself.

Short of taking it in for repair, what can I do?

Who did the drive replacement? Did they wear the proper safety static discharge equipment?

Do you get the Happy Mac chime on startup?

Sounds like a hardware problem, you'll need to take it to an Apple Service Provider near you.
