Software Update for iPad

I just bought an iPad, plugged it in, and found out that I need to upgrade iTunes to version 10.1 or later -- so I go to iTunes and it says all software is up to date, even though its still on version 9. Went to download a new iTunes version 10.5.2 and now it says I need Mac OS X 10.5 in order to install it. Ugh. In my "about this mac" button it says: version 10.4.11, processor 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.

Any help on what I need to do would be AWESOME!

Upgrade to 10.5 better yet 10.6 and if your computer can and Core 2 Duo may, all the way to 10.7.2

Sorry if this is a dumb question -- but what software do I need to do that?

The Mac Operating System, OS X. Its a big job and like you may like to take it to an Apple Service Centre to have this done. Ensure you have a full backup either way.
