Hi. I'm very new to Mac (MacBookPro) only a week old. I'm more of a user than a tech. We have a PC in another room with a modem and wireless router and an HP printer connected to the PC. My son has been trying to help me set up to print through the network and it's not working. One of the things my Mac is asking is the location and we have no idea what goes in the box. Will I even be able to go from my Mac to my printer? I have a lot of other things I probably need help with but that's the main one for now. Also, I can't find how to print something. Thanks, Carol P.S. I've been more than impressed with this computer already. Best thing I ever did. Just a lot to learn and I'm on my own (except my son/friends) as DH is still in favor of PC's LOL

Welcome to the forum and to Macs.

How is the printer accessed? If the printer is connected to the PC, it needs to be shared and the Windows firewall needs to allow file and printer sharing.

The location field is entirely optional. If you worked in a company, you would enter the room number or building code where to go to reach the printer. Since its just there, no worries.

sSomething that can help is connecting the printer directly to the Mac. Then open the Apple menu, System Preferences and click Printers. There you should be able to add it. The printer driver should be downloaded automatically if not already built into OS X.

Printer sharing between Windows and Mac can be a bit tricky to set up. Its also possible to connect printers to an Apple Airport wireless access point like Airport Express or Extreme, which lets both PC and Mac connect wirelessly to it.

Please tell us as much as you can. You should always state exactly what the error message says.

It's been so long since I tried to print wirelessly that I've forgotten the many things I tried. I simply gave up.However, I can take my laptop back to the printer and connect directly and print that way.Not really that much of a hassle. Thanks
