Snow Leopard Problem

I upgraded to Snow Leopard via disk and it appears that it loaded except that now FINDER is inoperable. The icon is on the dock but does not respond. Tried to "relaunch" but nothing happens. Can someone please help? I tried to restart the computer but it also does not respond even when I click RESTART or SHUT DOWN. Thanks!
