iPod Nano Question - Need Help using with Audio Books - My first Apple product so I'm an Apple Newbi

I've got an iPod Nano for Christmast and I've having a heck of a time
figuring it out. I've mainly been using it for Audio Books and after
several updates I'm having better luck but it is still not doing
everythign I THINK it should.
I don't buy books from iTunes but since Apple forces me to use it, I
do. The problem is I am able to get SOME books under a single
heading...
ex ...
AUDIOBOOKs\Once Dead\ Track 1 or Track 2 or Tract 3........
and this is great but the problem is other are like
AUDIOBOOKs\Tick\Track 1-12
AUDIOBOOKs\Tick\Track 12-22

So I might have 10 or 20 book parts listed DIRECTLY under Audiobooks
and with about 100 books on the device, it makes it pretty messy.

I have figured out how to use iTunes and click on GET
INFO\OPTIONS\MEDIA KIND and then set the media to Audio Books and this
helps to seperate Music from Audio Books but nothing I do can FORCE
all the books under a single heading , like songs under and Album
title. It seems like for some reason they either sort themselves as
chapers under a book title or I have several occurances of the book
title with some chapters under each book and nothing I do can change
it.

Also, when it sorts itself in the messy way, it looks like this (maybe
this will help explain it a little better.)

AUDIO BOOK
War and Peace Tolstoy 01
chapert 1
chapert 2
chapert 3
War and Peace Tolstoy 02
Chapert 4
chapert 5
War and Peace Tolstoy 03
chap 6
chap 7
War and Peace Tolstoy 04
chap 8
chap 9
Blue Adept Piers Anthony
chap 1
chap 2
...
chap 100
Green Arrow Huck Fin
Chap 1
...
chap 100

Hope that explains it better. I don't know if there is a limit to the
number of chapters you can have under an author/book title - maybe
that is the problem.
But it would be VERY NICE to have all the chapters of the same books
together.

Sorry , I know I've bungled this request for help with my confusing
explanation, but if you were able to read this far and understand what
I'm trying to say, help me, please!!!

Thanks
Bonnie

If I understand your problem correctly, I think you can solve it by
manipulating the
tags in iTunes. Here are some instructions on dealing with
converting CD's to audio books that might be applicable
to your situation:

I suspect if you simply delete those extra fields like Tolstoy 1,
Tolstoy 2, etc, things will sort themselves out correctly.

JC, thanks for the response.
The problem did infact solve itself shortly after I installed the
latest update for the nano.
The nano would stop playing after 45 min and would not turn back on.
Not even after a full night of charging. I would have to use the hard
reset feature on the nano. And anytime I turned it off, I had to do
the same. Then iTunes detected I had a problem and offered to fix it
for me. I let it try and it completely dicked up all the data on the
nano. Only a few books survived and a few hundred songs.
So I took iTunes up on its offer to restore my drive to Factory
settings (which included nuking all my music, books and pics.)
So at this point I had little to lose.
I told it to restore and after about a hour of it restoring, telling
me nano had a problem, trying to fix it, restoreing and just looping,
I just unpluged the damn thing and left it alone.
I put data back on it after once again doing a hard reset and it seems
to be working now for the moment. Have not listened to it for more
then a few mins.
It seems I now have to hold down the on button for several seconds
to turn the nano on/off - different than before the upgrade.
Really hope this fixes the problem.
I was happy to give Apple a try since I had such poor luck with the
(much easier to use) Sansa pieces of ****. I hope the apple nano
proves to be a much better product.

Again, thanks for the response to my request
