Hi there,

My gf has a mid 2009 Mac book which screen fades and melts and dies just after we start up.

She's running Snow Leopard.
Start up in fine.

Here is a video of the actual crash occurring:

Can you help me answer?
- Whats happening?
- How to fix it?
- Can i recover her data?

Any ideas, insights or knowledge?
Thank you so much,
~Z

Hmm, first check that someone hasn't set a strange screensaver with a short time.

But it looks like a failed graphic chip, take it to an Apple Service Centre, hope you have Extended AppleCare.

This should not have effected the data. Just start it up in Target Disk mode ( hold down the T key while starting up) and plug it into another Mac with a FireWire Cable.

Hey Kaveman,

heheh, not a screen saver Id think graphics card also.
Thanks for your input.

Any idea how macbook without firewire, errrrg, can do target disk mode?

Easiest bet, I guess pull out the drive and put it in a firewire enclosure?

Thanks again,
~Z

I'd boot of the DVD that came with it first and check that it also does the meltdown with a different boot disc.

Seems to be the projector / screen / graphics - video card issue. Took out hard drive and screen still fails. Sent in for repairs - fingers crossed

Thanks for your guys help.
