Hiding hidden folders from the Dock

Hi,
Abode Digital Editions kept creating a new folder in my Documents folder that I didn't really want there. I'm not very familiar with Terminal or any tricky stuff but I followed some online directions and first created a symbolic link that redirected the Digital Editions folder to someplace else. So far so good.
Then I made the symbolic folder invisible in Finder using
SetFile -P -a V filenamewhich also seems to have worked. Except I have my Documents folder displaying as a fan on my Dock, and in it I can still see the symbolic link that is otherwise invisible in Finder.
So my question is, why does the Dock still display invisible folders/files, and how can I remedy this?

I have an iMac and am using OS X Version 10.6.8.

Have you tried logging out and back in again? The Dock may be cacheing it.
