My MacBook Pro is haunted!

I have Nacbook pro running on Lion 10.7.1. Few hours ago, all of a sudden, it start acting funny. The mouse moves by itself and the screen jumps from one desktop to the other (I have two active desktops), to Launchpad, to widgets, to Mission Control, to mail. In random order. I can't really control the mouse direction and it also zooms in at times - all happens randomly and from very fast it slows down a bit for awhile and back to moving fast again till it slows down. I tried restarting and Installing updates but it still acting up. It makes it very hard to do anything on it cause I can hardly control the touch pad (mouse).

Anyone have an idea what it might be and how to fix this?

Haven't seen Mouse problems since they did away with the Cable.

I have a similar problem putting stuff on my graphics tablet and it overriding the mouse.

Sounds like it could be Bluetooth interference.

Could someone have accessed via Screen Sharing, that another explanation, are you an Admin User, do others have your Password?

If you take the Mouse and Keyboard right away from the Mac does it stop?

I'm the sole user of this Mac, Bluetooth is off and no screen shearing here. I don't have an actual mouse. By mouse I mean the arrow... Everything happens without me even touching the trackpad.

If it doesn't clear with a restart, I say it's a hardware problem with the Trackpad.

I'd recommend a trip to the local Apple Service Centre.

No, there are no Virus for OS X!

There are only 5 Trojans which you would have to download and install. Did you download and install software from an unknown site? They use key logging, not something so obvious as taking control of the cursor.

It helps if your User Account is not Admin.

@Kaveman I wish I had known that before I downloaded MacScan for my Mac. I knew that Macs rarely get viruses, but I had no idea about the Trojans.

I was having the same problem with the cursor jumping everywhere. I read that if you put a piece of paper over the trackpad it would help. I did that, it did help temporarily. You have to leave the paper on the trackpad when you're using it. It felt weird but at least it stopped the jumping for a little while.

From the looks of it your MacBook may still be under AppleCare, I'd take it to a local Apple Service Centre, ASAP.

And buy extended AppleCare if you haven't already.
