Printer Offline - how to get online?

Hi,

I'm new to Mac but bought 2nd hand so no official support. 2008 13" Macbook, OS 10.5

Just installed a printer, new Canon Pixma MP499 on box (but says 495 in software) and it's installed, recognised, made the default, switched on, WiFi light on, but when I try to print, an icon pops up on the Dock saying "Printer offline!"

On a PC I know where to go to change this but just can't find my way on here! I expect it's really easy when you know how, but very frustrating when you don't! I'm not a techie - one of those people who 'just uses it but doesn't know how it works'. Would much appreciate a little help from those who know what they;re doing!

Press the On Line button on the Printer. That's a printer message, normally.

Thank you Kaveman, I don't have an "online/offline' button on the printer but still I think you are right, because this morning I did a manual copy to check that it works, using the copy button on the printer, and after that it printed normally through the Macbook. So problem solved, and yes it was to do with the printer itself not how it was installed.

Now there are just the other 101 or so things I wish I knew how to do on a Mac, but thankyou for a good introduction to the Forum!
