HELP! Stuck new user

Just unboxed my new iMac, have a class on Monday, should have left it alone! I am stuck in some loop, trying tom trash a bunch of empty folders I somehow created! Tried a restart but "The Finder can't quit because some operations are still in progress".....the folders are preparing to move to trash? Help?

And its hold down the power button and count to 10.

the OP would have moved on but:

Use Activity Monitor to locate the process and Kill it, then log out and back in or a normal restart.

No modern OS likes the power just being pulled.
