Mac/yahoo mail strangeness

I hope this is the right section to post this, I'm new to Macs.

When I send an e-mail from my Yahoo account, the space at
the bottom of the page reads: Loading xx of xx, x=random
numbers, and as I move the cursor I get a blue wheel (disk
activity?). I don’t remember this happening with my PC. Has
my account been hijacked and sending spam?
Any help will be appreciated.
