Trouble using MAC and Sony Handycam

I have a Sony Handycam DCR HC42 and a MAC OS X version 10.6.6. I used to be able to download my videos from the CamCorder to the MAC using the camera docking station and the USB connection. (I did recently install the iLife upgrade from MAC, in case that is what is different now.) I turn the camera on and put it in Play-Edit mode after it is connected and iPhoto pops up instead of iMovie. The MAC shows that it recognizes the Sony camera when I click under the Apple and the USB bus info. I cannot get the video to download. It keeps trying to download pictures to iPhoto instead on iMovie and it does not show my movie that is on the DV tape in the camera at all. Help please! I have no idea why it doesn't work anymore!
