CD-ROM formats

I'm about to distribute software for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP and Mac OS X on the
same CD-ROM.

Are there any problems to watch out for?

Will an ordinary Joliet type CD-ROM work fine?

Are there other formats I should consider?

What's best: Should I put the Windows software in one directory and
the Mac software in another directory or have everything on the root?

Thanks
M

Make a hybrid CD.

This is the only way to have a true Mac experience, with normally-named
files (no extensions).

I use Toast to do this.

Hmm, can you please explain a little bit more?
Do you mean that a Joliet CD-ROM wouldn't do the job? Why?
Why's there a problem with the file names?

Thanks
M

Mac OS 9 (i can't remember about Mac OS X) can't get the long names out of
a Joliet CD (at least not without 3rd party software), so you're left with
8.3 style names.

But this is only for Mac OS X, so it doesn't matter if it doesn't work on OS 9.

I have a feeling, but no facts, that OS X doesn't have any problems to read
Joliet CD-ROMs. I could to burn one of course and try ... but if somebody
has tried and knows all the details, please post them.

Ok. I can buy that argument.

I've never tried, but I know OS X comes with CD burning software, and
I'm pretty sure it can make hybrid disks, but Toast gives much more
control. I doubt there are any Windows apps that can do such a thing.

My MacImage (http://www.macdisk.com/macimgen.php3) does precisely that
on Windows.
