Airport Card Problem

I installed an Apple Airport Card (with the Airport Adapter) in my Slot-Loading iMac (OS X 10.4.11) using the instructions on the Mac website, using the instructions on the Mac website, but my Mac doesn't recognize the Airport Card's existence.

I removed and reinstalled the card / adapter.

I disconnected and reconnected the card from / to the adapter.

I checked the System Profiler (the Airport Card was not listed).

I opened System Preferences > network and Internet Connect, but the Airport card option was not listed in either place.

What do I do?
