Hi
I am relatively new to MAC but use one for my Business, I recently purchased the latest version of Quark only to find it can only be opened in OSX so I purchased an upgrade for my OS9, but am unable to open the .toast files supplied.
I managed to obtain a copy of Titanium Toast 5.3 on ebay as I understood the latest version would not work in OS9.3 but I find I still cannot open the toast files
so at the moment I am lost as to what to do and would certainly appreciate any help
Regards Dennis Wells

If I'm correct you have OS9.3 and want to install the latest version of Quark on it?

If that's the case you will not be able to install Quark OR any application which requires OSX onto a OS9 system. They just will not work on an older version so, the only way you can install Quark is if you buy an older version of the application i.e quark version ??? or upgrade to Panther (Tiger's out soon).

I hope this helps, I'm new to Macs myself

Hi Dennis,

Can you give the exact name of the file that you are trying to open in toast, ie "mac osx.img"

CMD + I on the file, what type of file is it?, most files that have been downloaded from the Internet will have been compressed, using stuffit, shrinkwrap or similar, helps the download speed !

If you can do a screen grab of the CMD + I window and post that, that might help us.

The chances are it is compressed in some way and will need uncompressing, before you can load it into Toast.

Bare in mind using Quark in OS X is different to using it in OS 9.22 (3?), fonts are handled differently, so are printers etc.

If you are unfamiliar with Mac's, I would stick with Quark on OS (9.2.2) unless there are some features of the latest Quark that you require.

If you use Quark for work, then maybe a trip to the Applestore might be a cheaper option in the end, depending on your hourly rate !! LOL. "Quark" is the big bucks, not OS X.

As long as the "Toast file" you have is not corrupt then you should be able to get a copy off it.

regards

Ric

Hi Ric

Thanks for the answer I will have to check out full details of file names etc when I go back on the MAC. I downloaded from the Web OSX upgrade from OS9 and unzipped the files and they became 5 different .toast files not sure of full title offhand, will check them out, also obtained disks but my MAC will not open them either. Will check things out and report back
Unfortunately I have a Customer who is using latest version of Quark so I really need to access it
Regards Dennis

Just a friendly note...what you downloaded is illegal, pirated software.

To be fair; Dennis did ask me privately about posting his problem first, whilst I do not par take in any shall we call it trial ware software myself any more, I like many others have had the need over the years to dabble...

...I would be surprised if there is much Mac software out there that at one time or another I haven't had a go at...sometimes it's the only way to learn !

...my own thoughts are that as long as Warez sites/files etc are not publicly posted on this site, what others want to do is up to themselves.

Maybe if the trial ware is a success, Dennis may go on to purchase ?

BTW: I have just succesfully partitioned my Win XP Laptop to a dual boot - with a copy of Red Hat Linux Fedora core 3 - All free OS, complete with hundreds of free Apps - Still trying to get my wireless card working though - anyhoo proper open source is very good !!

No worries, I have been in his position - one client changes their setup and it can/could cost you thousands, just to be able to do a $50 piece of artwork...LOL...not good business sense.

I am quite easy going as long as we don't start getting..."Where can I get this/that serial number etc...fo those that are going down that path -ask Google, not here.

Ric
Thanks for the comments to date and hope I haven't upset anyone, but as you mentioned it was going to cost me best part of £1000 to upgrade for something that might earn £20 or £30, so I am hoping to learn at this stage and get full version if it is warranted.
I opened my MAC this morning and still couldn't get anywhere with files so I deleted the Titanium Toast software that I loaded on Friday, rebooted and loaded it again and eventually managed to open one of the files so hopefully things will go OK now, and it was my bad luck and inexperience that appears to have caused my problems.
So once again thanks and hopefully I will be able to try the New Quark out
Regards Dennis
