Hard Drive Space Issue

I have a Powerbook G4, 80 gig hard drive. I recently had to reinstall the osx (Tiger) and reinstall files and programs etc. When I completed this, the system profiler showed I had about 35g of space left. I have downloaded a few pics, nothing major and now the profiler shows I only have about 7g of unused space...any ideas what could cause this? When I add up the size of my folders, it adds up to about 38g....could my hard drive being going bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
