Hi,

Sorry for the not-very-specific title. I wasn't sure how to phrase the question.

I use iWork, especially Pages, pretty frequently, and I have had a pretty good experience, but there's one thing I miss: an autosave feature.

I downloaded the apparently great program WorkSaver, but it has limited usefulness because it is a separate program instead of a plugin for iWork or Pages.

I would like to be able to run WorkSaver automatically when I open an iWork application, and if possible, quit WorkSaver automatically when I quit that application.

Is there a setting or control for something like this? or maybe another third-party application? Or some sort of script? I don't know anything about scripting, so please be specific if that is the best option.

Thanks for your time

Hey everyone,

So here's my mess. I received an old Powerbook G4 from my grandparents. It worked perfectly, but had about 5 years of old programs/photos on it. I wanted to do an Erase and Install for a fresh OS. It's version 10.4 (Tiger). Everything worked fine, internet, no errors, freezes, etc.

So I popped in the Install DVD, and ran an Erase and Install. I then proceeded to watch a movie, and wehn I came back to the computer, it had a black screen. I believed it was off, although I wasnt sure because Im a PC guy. I hit the power button to try and turn it back on. This is where my nightmare begins. I have not been able to even get to the login screen in two days of working on it.

It will turn on.

I have run a fsck -fy and it says Macintosh HD appears to be OK.

The computer will freeze completely, whether it be I'm trying to boot from the Install CD or regularly.

If I'm booting from the HD, it will complete the loading screen that says Loading Max OS X, and then the gray box that holds the loading bar disappears after loading completely, which leaves me with a light blue screen. My mouse turns into a little multicolored wheel that spins for about a second or two and then stops, and then computer will stop responding (keyboard strokes, mouse movement, anything.)

It will not boot in Safe Mode.

It will freeze if I try and boot from the install disk before I get to the screen to choose my language.

I have tested taking out one stick of ram at a time to see if they is any failure in that. The computer still freezes.

This is really bugging me because the computer was working fine before I did the original Erase and Install, no hardware malfunctions. Did I interrupt a key point in the installation process when I turned it back on? Is it just messed up beyond repair? It didnt seem to be doing anything when I hit the power button.

I REALLY need some help, thank you SO much.
Kenyon

Good morning all. About an hour ago my late 2006 MacBook pro froze for quite a while so it had to...

Good morning all. About an hour ago my late 2006 MacBook pro froze for quite a while so it had to be forced down by holding the power button for 10 seconds. At reboot, it looked like all would be normal but after boot was taking longer than usual, the display suddenly showed what appeared to be a progress bar. After about 15 minutes, the progress bar suddenly appeared aprox 1/4 full and then it just disappeared entirely. After another 10-15 minutes of just the apple and the spinning cog, I shut it down again and attempted to boot from another partition on the same drive. No dice, but to be fair I didn't really give it that much time before I grew impatient and convinced myself I needed to run DiskWarrior immediately. I then booted from an external HD running Tiger and that's what I'm on now. Oddly, the main partition on the internal hard drive is showing as an option to boot @ start up when I hold down the option key, as is the other partition on the drive, however, now that I'm booted from an external, only the smaller of the two partitions shows on the destkop.

Further adding to the mystery, DiskWarrior DOES recognize the main partition even though it does not appear on the desktop. I am currently running DiskWarrior on that drive now and it's taking forever. I have not recently installed any software or hardware updates at all, but I did inherit a battery from a family member who replaced her MBP a few weeks ago. I don't think that should have an effect on my hard drive but I thought I'd mention it.

I'm inclined to believe this is just a bad partition and not a complete hard drive failure since one partition is still showing and all the data on it is accessible. I'm wondering if I should just attempt to wipe it and reinstall, but there is some data on that main partition that I'd like to save. Since it's not showing on the desktop though, I don't know how I'd do that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks so much to everyone for reading.

Hi
I am trying to back up using Silverkeeper..I wonder if you can answer me a couple of questions? Firstly Sileverkeeper is reading the folder I am trying to back as being 773gb with 120,000 items! When I use the Info in finder it states that the same folder is 830Gb with 147,000 items.. One opinion has led me to believe that this is OK so I have gone ahead and started to back up.. Seeing as this would take at least 48 hours I had a look during the process and the files are being copied, but some that are at the beginning of the folder have been skipped and not copied yet.. Can you please give me some advise on these 2 points and any help is really appreciated and would save a lot of time.
Best Wishes
Steve

Hi,

Yesterday I switched my mac book on got a grey box appear saying I needed to restart. When I did the same thing happened again.

Today I switched my macbook on and it would only load up windows xp which I have loaded onto my macbook through bootcamp (but never use it).

I then switched my macbook off and on whilst holding the 'alt' key to bring up the screen that allows you to choose between the mac hard drive or windows one through boot camp; but now I can only choose the windows hard drive and the mac one doesn't even appear.

Have I lost everything on my mac hard drive and what should I do to get it working again?

Thank you

Hi.

I downloaded picasa for mac a few days ago. Ever since then, when I connect my camera to the USB port - it does not "read" on the hard drive. I then figured out that I could still import the photos from Picasa - but I want to be able to read the card directly from the desktop. Can anyone help?

I went into Picasa setting and where it says "when camera is connected", the options are to "open picasa" or "do nothing". Mine is on "do nothing".

Thanks!

Hi,

I am running Mac OS X and downloaded iTunes 10, only to find that it had a strange new logo. I have tried to change it but only get this:

Now how do i get my old itunes logo onto the app?

Oh and another thing, my iTunes 10 has been skipping through every single song much like a scratched CD, but none of my songs are corrupted. It didn't do that this morning when I had iTunes 9...
Thanks,

Hey :) Im new to mac, I dont know if this is the right place to ask for help but here I go anyway..

Yesterday i happened to do something that made the shift, fn, ctrl, alt, command icons appear on the screen whenever i click on them, and make this annoying noise.. for example if i click on shift on the right side, and not hold it down, the icon appears on the screen and makes the first alphabet in any word i write a capital, and then it dissapears...

So i think the idea behind this is so that you wont have to hold down the keys, but they are so annoying and i cant figure out how to get it away! Ive been looking everywhere on google..

I hope some of you will help me :)
Thank you
